Glades
County is home to more than 165 acres of industrially zoned
property, some with rail access, available potable water, sewer
and electricity and access to US 27. Located on the west of
Lake Okeechobee, in southwest Florida, we are centrally located
and almost equidistant to markets in Ft. Myers, West Palm Beach
and within two hours of markets in Orlando and Miami. We are
also located on the intercoastal waterway, which bisects the
east and west coasts of Florida from the Gulf in Ft. Myers, via
the Caloosahatchee River, across Lake Okeechobee, to Stuart and
the Atlantic. Much of this property is located within an enterprise zone, which offers special tax incentives for credits against corporate or sales tax for job creation, sales tax refunds for purchases of business machinery and equipment, building materials sales tax refunds and corporate income tax refunds equal to 96 percent of the value of new or improved property. |
|
The state of Florida also offers other incentives, such as qualified target industry incentives, a quick response training program to assist with staff development, economic transportation funds for road and or rail improvements, rural infrastructure funds and rural community development revolving loan funds to assist in development. Your company could participate on the ground floor with a build to suit construction. Property owners might be interested in joint ventures, long term lease or outright subdivision and sale of the property, depending upon your business needs and the particular site you’re interested in. HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?
The Glades County Economic
Development Council, in conjunction with the Florida
Heartland Rural Economic Development Initiative, is
surveying all businesses in Glades County to determine what
your business' needs are. Below you will find a survey which asks if your business sustained any damages or lost time during last year's hurricane. This information will assist us in planning for this year's hurricane season. Other questions ask if you are familiar with the Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) zone program, which certifies small businesses so they can pursue state and federal contracts.
Is your business located in an enterprise zone? Certain areas of Glades County, including the entire city limits of Moore Haven, plus sections of Palmdale, Lakeport and portions of US 27 and SR 80 in Glades County are designated as enterprise zones, which make businesses and residents eligible to receive sales tax and other incentives for building materials and supplies, equipment purchases, and job creation. Please let us know if you have ever participated in the Enterprise Zone incentives program and if not, please contact us for more information. Are you familiar with job training and employee recruitment services offered by Workforce Development? Does your business have any special needs--a new location, a new computer system or assistance with software? Please respond to the appropriate survey questions.
Results from the survey will be used in planning programs to assist businesses in Glades County. If you have any questions, or need more information, please phone (863) 946-0300 or email twhirls@gladescountyedc.com |

WHAT IS AN ENTERPRISE ZONE? An Enterprise Zone is a specific geographic area targeted for economic revitalization. Enterprise Zones encourage economic growth and investment in distressed areas by offering tax advantages and incentives to businesses located within the zone boundaries. Florida has Enterprise Zones location throughout the state in both rural and urban areas. Enterprise Zones may also include additional financial incentives for businesses.
Florida's Enterprise Zone Program was
established in 1980 as one of the nation's first tax incentive
programs. An Enterprise Zone, designated by the State of
Florida, is an urban or rural area targeted for economic
revitalization. The Enterprise Zone program is designed to
stimulate the economic base of selected communities. Financial
incentives are offered to businesses of all sizes to encourage
private investment in the zones. |
